How to guarantee affordable housing never gets built Even in the bluest states, human nature wins. Everyone nods along to “we need more housing”… until the project lands on their block. Fairfax, California, just became the latest case study. A six-story apartment building sparked a recall election, lawsuits, and a town brawl. People who voted for housing mandates at the state level are suddenly fighting them locally. “We want more apartments… just not near us.” This won’t change. The older and more established the community, the harder it gets to push through new density. That’s not ideology—it’s psychology. So if you invert the problem and ask: how do we ensure no affordable housing gets built? The answer is simple: let every local vote, council meeting, and lawsuit drag on for years. Delay is the most effective veto. California says it needs three million homes. Fairfax can’t stomach 243 units. That’s the math. WSJ piece for context: https://lnkd.in/ewju5Ptp
