Got a call from my contractor this week:
Heโd been hunting everywhereโHome Depot, Loweโs, HD Supplyโtrying to find hallway light covers for one of our properties. No luck.
The bad news?
If we couldnโt find them, weโd have to replace all 211 fixtures.
Thatโs not just a couple of trips to the store โ thatโs $25Kโ$35K in materials, labor, and ceiling touch-ups.
The good news?
I had ChatGPT on my phone. (This was o3, now we have GPT 5)
I took a few photos of the lights, dropped them into the chat, and within minutes, the AI:
Identified the exact manufacturer and part number
Found multiple suppliers with stock
Suggested alternative covers that would fit perfectly
Instead of weeks of frustration and a five-figure expense, it found the covers for me.
This isnโt about AI replacing people โ itโs about replacing wasted time, wasted money, and wasted opportunities.
In this case, AI turned a costly problem into a quick win.
Where in your business could AI be your first call instead of your last resort?
