A new study reveals that piling on regulationsโ€”like income source laws, eviction restrictions, and screening rulesโ€”raises operating costs, discourages investment, and makes housing less affordable. Shocking, I know. Another study suggests that incentives like tax abatements can actually encourage development and increase affordability. Imagine thatโ€”people respond to incentives! Maybe, just maybe, if we want more housing, we should stop making it more expensive to build and operate.
