Half of All Rental Applications in some Atlanta submarkets Now Show Signs of Fraud Lease fraud isn’t just a landlord problem anymore, it’s a market issue too. Scammers are working the rental system with fake pay stubs, stolen identities, and AI-made documents. A property manager in Florida found out the hard way when a thief used a businessman’s bank info to rent a house, live there, and leave the real man with $10,000 in charges. Now the industry is on alert. Greystar says half of the rental applications in some Atlanta markets show clear fraud. Camden’s CEO even had someone try to rent an apartment using his name. Fraud increase bad debt, delays leasing, and raises costs that get passed to everyone. Honest renters end up paying for fake tenants too. Online leasing was built to make renting easier. It also made cheating scalable. https://lnkd.in/eeaC9_5N
